Compost Pile Heating up!!

Thanks to a generous donator, we now have a compost thermometer! As you know, we started our first hot composting pile on Wednesday afternoon. Four days on, and the centre of our pile has reached approximately 95 F. The ground temperature today is approximately 45 F. We are excited that our pile is warming up as it means beneficial bacteria, microorganisms, worms, and insects are slowly breaking down our kitchen scraps and leaves. It is our hope that the temperature will continue to rise going over 100 degrees soon so the active composting activities will occur. We will keep checking the temperature and keep you posted!
